Kenneth John Koeller, Jr.

Sergeant Koeller was shot and killed after surprising a group of burglars at a local business. While he was detaining two of the suspects a third suspect came up from behind and started to struggle with Sergeant Koeller. During the struggle the suspect shot him in the neck, before all three fled the scene.

A fingerprint lifted from the scene produced a suspect in Ohio three years later but he was not convicted. The shooter was arrested in Illinois, confessed to the murder, and sentenced to two life sentences.

I worked with you as a paramedic on several 911 calls, and was on duty the night you left us. You were a kind and caring man who only wanted good for the people we served and go home to your wife each day. Three times in my career a dedicated officer lost his and her life trying to serve a community called North county. Today as we mourn yet another senseless loss of a good officer and man in North county. And once again I mourn and you and Joanna from St. Louis county and Jay Noser from Florissant during my years.
I pray that someday all of this will stop.
