Sheriff Kimerer was killed in an automobile accident on Highway 99E at 2115 in Tehama County while returning from an investigation. The rear tire on his vehicle blew out, causing the vehicle to go out of control and overturn. Sheriff Kimerer suffered severe head injuries and died within 15 minutes of the accident. His secretary was slightly injured.
Sheriff Kimerer had been Sheriff for just over three years and was survived by his wife, two daughters, sister, and two brothers.
