Detective Patrick Kennedy was shot in the back and killed near Panola and Pine Streets by an unknown assailant.

It is believed that the same man murdered Patrolman Frank Connor on the same day. The subject was executed for Detective Kennedy's murder.

Detective Kennedy was survived by his wife.
