Trooper Semmie Jeffries was killed in an accident when his patrol car collided with a tractor trailer in at the interchange of U.S. 72 and I-65, near Athens, Madison County.
The trailer was attempting to turn onto U.S. 72 when the crash occurred.
Trooper Jeffries was assigned to the Decatur trooper post. He was survived by his daughter.
