Lewis Willard Hurst, Jr.

Officer Lewis Hurst was shot and killed while executing a narcotics search warrant at a home owned by an elderly couple. The warrant had been issued by the Chesapeake Police Department.

As the Chesapeake and Norfolk officers entered the home at approximately 3:00 am the elderly female occupant fired one shot through the bedroom door, fatally wounding Officer Hurst.

Officer Hurst had served with the agency for only 18 months.

Kit, I know that you and Mom have been reunited. She so longed to see you again. I still choke up all these many years later as I read the reflections posted here. God took you from us at such a young age. I can now understand just a little bit how that tragic night positively affected so many other lives, but the selfish part of me still wishes I could hug you today.
