Ryan Francis Weltman

Park Ranger Ryan Weltman drowned in the Shoshone Lake in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, when his kayak capsized.

He was crossing the lake to warn campers of approaching storms when he was caught in rough waters and capsized.

Park Ranger Weltman was survived by his parents and sister.

Ryan, you and I attended the NPS academy together in 1993. I only recently stumbled on this ODMP entry. I remember you as one of the kindest people in our group, and always enjoyed the group of us listening to you play guitar in the hallway at SRTC. You sacrificed it all to keep your park visitors safe -- I'm proud to have known you.
