Robert John Hogue

Officer Robert Hogue was shot and fatally wounded inside his patrol car just before midnight as he and his partner transported a prisoner to jail.

The suspect, who had been picked up at a bar in the 11th precinct on a warrant for carrying a concealed weapon, was sitting in the back seat and was able to produce a concealed handgun.

The suspect fatally wounded Officer Hogue in the front passenger seat with a shot to the back of the neck before being shot and killed by a responding officer. Officer Hogue's partner was able to dive from the vehicle. Both officers missed the concealed weapon in an initial search of the suspect. Officer Houge died at the hospital the next day.

Officer Hogue was a three-year veteran of the force. He was survived by his wife and child.
