Constable George Hindes was shot and killed after instructing a man to return home.
Constable Hindes had encountered the man while on patrol shortly after midnight. The suspect began to argue and then shot Constable Hindes seven times with a .22 caliber handgun. The suspect was arrested and sentenced to life in prison.
Constable Hindes had served with the Atascosa County Constable's Office - Precinct 1 for only six months and had previously served with the Atascosa County Sheriff's Department.
