At 90 years of age, I still remember George Higgins as my first friend in Harrington Park. My husband and I had bought the model home and first one built on Oak Street. We moved in with two children, 2years old and 5 years old. My husband had to leave 5 days later on an overseas trip (which was to last 8weeks). Nothing had been delivered including the refrigerator--it was April--didn't know anyone and didn't drive!
Mini disaster! One morning the doorbell rang--there was a young policeman--George Higgins--he assured me that the HP police force patrolled 24 hours a day and there was nothing to be concerned about. "Just call anytime and we will be there". Have you any idea what that wonderful police man meant to me right then? Just everything! George became a good friend--we bought our first lawnmower from him, consulted him on just about every merchant and big purchase. In other words our first introduction to Harrington Park. Could it have been more perfect? I still dearly love the Harrington Park police and always will!
In my long years in HP I volunteered in the HP Library, Board of Health and the HP Ambulance Corps. And George Higgins started it all! Sending you love, prayers and always thanks
