Reserve Officer Dennis Harrell was killed in an automobile crash while making a U-turn to assist a disabled motorist on Highway 26 near Tinker Road.

As he made the turn his patrol car was struck on the driver's side door by a station wagon. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Reserve Officer Harrell was survived by his wife and children.

Today, we remember and honor the only Colleyville Police Officer killed in the line of duty, Reserve Officer Dennis E. Harrell. Officer Harrell #132 died in a tragic car accident on September 12, 1980. We are flying our flags at half-mast today in his honor.

Dennis is missed daily by his wife, daughter and son. He is also missed by the men and women of his blue family - the Colleyville Police Department.

Thank you for your sacrifice. We will never forget.
