Officer Gary Harl was shot and killed after stopping a man driving a stolen motorcycle.

Officer Harl requested a backup. When his backup officer arrived, Officer Harl's body was found slumped in the front seat of his patrol car.

The suspect committed suicide the following morning when he was surrounded by officers.

Officer Harl was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam war and had served with the Arlington Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife.
