Patrolman Ernest Grillot was shot and killed when he surprised three bandits in their attempt to rob the Rocheblave branch of the Canal Bank & Trust Company.

All three suspects, ages 19, 21, and 26, were arrested, convicted of murder, and sentenced to life in prison.

Patrolman Grillot was survived by his wife.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 80th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
