Deputy Sheriff Michael George succumbed to injuries received when he was crushed between two vehicles on East Avenue in Elyria.
His cruiser had broken down and was being towed by another cruiser. When they were able to restart the cruiser, Deputy George went between the vehicles to disconnect the chain. Another vehicle struck the cruiser from behind, and he was crushed between the two. Deputy George was transported to Elyria Hospital where here he died from his injuries.
The driver was originally charged with failing to stop within an assured clear distance.
Deputy George had served with the Lorain County Sheriff's Department for six months. He was survived by his wife, son, mother, three brothers, and three sisters.
