Jose Ramon Bonilla-Gonzalez

Officer Jose Bonilla-Gonzalez, Officer Gutierrez-Colon, and Officer William Burgos-Colon were killed in a helicopter accident while attempting to clear an area downstream of the Carraizo Dam prior to the flood gates being opened. The helicopter struck a set of power lines above the dam, causing it to crash.

Officer Bonilla-Gonzalez had served with the agency for 24 years with FURA's Air Unit and had previously served with the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He was survived by his wife and five children.

Jose: Thanks for your service and sacrifice to the citizens of Puerto Rico. I thank you as well for service in Viet Nam--no doubt serving as a helicopter pilot. I'm sure that your police and military exploits were the stuff of legend. Anyway thanks for serving as a police officer/pilot an serving in the U.S. Army in combat.
