George Louis Fredrickson

Trooper George Fredrickson was electrocuted by a power line at the scene of an accident on Route 100 approximately two miles west of Grafton, in Jersey County.

He and other officers had responded to a motorcycle accident after its driver, who was fatally injured, had struck a power line pole. As Trooper Fredrickson walked toward the motorcycle in the darkness he came into contact with a low-hanging, 6,700-volt high tension line that had become loosened in the collision, killing him instantly.

Trooper Fredrickson had served with the Illinois State Police for nearly 3½ years and was assigned to District 11. He was survived by his wife, 16-year-old son, 14-year-old daughter, mother, brother, and two sisters.
