Harry Francois

Patrolman Harry Francois was shot and killed as he attempted to arrest three youths who were robbing a couple in the park.

All three were apprehended. The one who shot him was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death. A year later his sentence was commuted to 199 years. He died in prison August 6, 1946. A second suspect was sentenced to 20 years.

The Chicago Park District Police in the City of Chicago was disbanded in 1957. Remaining officers were transferred to the Chicago Police Department through an intergovernmental agreement. Fallen officers are currently honored on the memorial wall of the Chicago Police Department as Chicago Police Officers.
