Jeffery Warren Tackett

Officer Jeffery Tackett was shot and killed as he was attempting to handcuff a prowler suspect.

During a struggle, the suspect was able to gain control of Officer Tackett's handgun and use it to shoot him.

The 31-year-old suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life.

Officer Tackett had served with the Belleair Police Department for five years. He was survived by his wife.

I remember that day when that call came in about officer down. when I heard that come over the radio, my heart sunk. and I also remember when they had his patrol car parked in our fire department garage. And also, remember the day of his funeral service. I just want to say it was a very beautiful service. And the amount of respect that was shown to him and his wife. and have him and his wife and his child in my prayers.
