Lemmie L. Fortenberry

Patrolman Lemmie Fortenberry was shot and killed when he interrupted a burglary at a trunk factory at the corner of Baronne and Terpischore Streets.

Witnesses attracted to the scene said they heard two gunshots as Patrolman Fortenberry was grappling with a man outside of the factory. Both were mortally wounded and died after arrival at the hospital. Two more men were arrested in connection with the burglary.
