June 19th, 2018 will mark the 80th anniversary of Worthington Police Officer Roy Fitch who died in the line of duty. As police week and Memorial Day have passed, we are reminded on June 19th of the ultimate sacrifice many of our uniformed officers all too often pay when serving their communities. We ask that we continue to honor those lives lost while performing their selfless service.

The Worthington Police Department will continue to honor the sacrifice and commitment of Officer Fitch by renaming our department’s highest award after him. The Roy Fitch Medal of Valor will be awarded to officers who perform with distinction, gallantry and courage in the line of duty. The action or deed must be one of personal bravery or self-sacrifice that clearly distinguishes the individual and must have involved the immediate risk of the officer’s life.

On June 19th, 2018, members of the Worthington Police Department will adorn Officer Fitch's grave site with a memorial wreath, thin blue line flags and we'll leave a squad car at the cemetery to commemorate his life and service.
