Lieutenant Estes was shot and killed while chasing a bootlegger on Kenton Street. The suspect was arrested, convicted of murder, and sentenced to life. He was paroled in 1944.

Lieutenant Estes was survived by his wife, son, mother, brother, and a sister.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, not even 85 years.
