Police Officer George Eppley was shot and killed during an assassination attempt of a political candidate for the city council. Policeman Eppley was guarding the candidate at the time when they were attacked in front of the McCall Public School.
On December 20, 1917, the suspect, 22, was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was paroled in 1933. An accomplice convicted of accessory to murder was sentenced to 12 years,
Officer Eppley served with the Philadelphia Police Department for seven years.
