Edward Joseph Alva

Deputy Sheriff Edward Alva was accidentally shot and killed by his partner while struggling with a mentally ill man during a domestic disturbance call.

Deputy Alva had served with the Richland County Sheriff's Department for four years and had previously served with the Alaska State Troopers for one year. He was survived by his two daughters, parents, and sister.

Joe worked with me in 1982 at a State Temporary Holding Facility (jail) in Bethel, AK, for at least a year before moving south. He learned quickly and did a good job. All of these years later, I still occasionally think of him. He was liked in our small community and was a friend to one of my sons.
