Walter was my grandfather. I never got to meet him because he died when my mom was only 8 years old. I always got a pain in my heart when she told me the story of the officers coming to the house to get my grandmother, and how she knew something had happened, but didn't know what. Our family has always been proud of Walter and his service and his memory lives on through us. He would have been proud of both of his daughters and the families they raised. I am honored to be his granddaughter.
