David F. "Paddy" Craeghe

Deputy Craeghe and other men were on there way to a local ranch to do an assessment when they were attacked by a large group of renegade indians. Deputy Craeghe and another man were shot and killed. Eleven indians were killed.

The renegades, led by Chief Victorio, had been raiding white settlements and killing people for more than a year all over Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. They were rebelling against the U.S. government for forcing them to leave their homeland. A few months later they entered Mexico and soon found themselves surrounded by the Mexican Army. The army attacked killing all of them.
