Officer Cowdin suffered a fatal heart attack while assisting the Garnett Police Department with crowd control at the Garnett Race Track during the annual Fourth of July race.

Officer Cowdin suffered the heart attack after sustaining other injuries while he and other officers attempted to control a riot that had broken out at the event.
