Officer Randy Schipani was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on University Drive, at the I-75 interchange, during morning rush hour.

The side windows and rear window of the vehicle were tinted and prevented Officer Schipani or his partner from seeing inside of it. As a result, Officer Schipani had to look through the windshield of the vehicle. As he did the juvenile driver fired a shot at him, fatally wounding him. Officer Schipani's partner returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Officer Schipani had served with the Atlanta Police Department for five years. He is survived by his wife.

I think of him often. We met when I was in College in the early 80’s. He was a kind soul , his father was a hoot !
He was my first friend who ever got killed .
He lived life , his wife and beat all odds to get where he was on that fatal day .
He left his mark on all of us .
