Randy John Schipani

Officer Randy Schipani was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on University Drive, at the I-75 interchange, during morning rush hour.

The side windows and rear window of the vehicle were tinted and prevented Officer Schipani or his partner from seeing inside of it. As a result, Officer Schipani had to look through the windshield of the vehicle. As he did the juvenile driver fired a shot at him, fatally wounding him. Officer Schipani's partner returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Officer Schipani had served with the Atlanta Police Department for five years. He is survived by his wife.

I teach a class at the Birmingham Police Academy and always tell them about Randy because I want them to know how important their profession is and the they should cherish every moment. Like Buddy said, Randy was the life of our law School class and that he was loved by all of us. I hope that by mentioning him I am keeping his spirit alive. He is missed.
