Earl Confer

Deputy Earl Confer was shot and killed and another deputy was wounded in a gunfight with two 21-year-old men while making a traffic stop. One of the suspects was shot and seriously wounded.

Both suspects were convicted of Deputy Confer's murder and sentenced to life in prison on April 25th, 1946.

Deputy Confer had served with the Greene County Sheriff's Office for six years he was survived by his wife and two sons. He is buried at Spring Valley Cemetery, Greene County, Ohio.

Earl Confer, my grandfather, was killed 11 years prior my birth. To me, he is and was a heroe in every way. His humble start to life was his moniker for life, his work as a Greene county sheriff deputy was his mark of humility; a reflection of his kind hearted nature. I only wish I'd known him, vicariously I've grown to. I write this for his memory. Steve Confer
