Anthony James Cilurso

Officer Tony Cilurso succumbed to injuries sustained on July 22, 1983, when his police motorcycle was struck by a driver under the influence of drugs at 10:30 a.m.

Officer Cilurso was responding to a burglary in progress call with his emergency equipment activated when the driver turned in front of him and collided with his motorcycle on South Pleasant Hill Road near Bay Street in Warner Robins. He was thrown over 30 feet from his motorcycle.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, failure to yield the right-of-way, having an expired license, and driving without insurance.

Officer Cilurso remained in a coma for several weeks. Once he came out of the coma, he was physically and mentally impaired as a result of the severe trauma and head injuries he sustained. He died in his home on March 5, 1990.

Officer Cilurso was a United States Army National Guard veteran and had served with the Warner Robins Police Department for 2 years. He had previously served with the Dania, Florida, Police Department for 12 years. He was survived by his son, parents, and sister.
