Robert R. Cline

Detective Cline was shot and killed in a fierce shootout between four bank robbers. Three of the robbers were shot and killed and several other officers were critically wounded. The fourth robber was shot in the spine and paralyzed. He was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death. On April 6, 1938, he died on death row of complications from his wounds two weeks before his scheduled execution.

Detective Cline had been with the agency for 11 years.

In the early 1980s I met and became good friends with one of your grandsons. I've since lost contact with him some years ago but I've never forgotten the story he told about what happened to his Grandfather. I think about it from time to time and I just want to thank you for your service to the people of Columbus all these years later. Don't know what our country would do without guys like you. Rest in peace, sir.
