Officer Kenneth Campbell was killed in an automobile crash while pursuing a speeding motorcycle at 27th Avenue and Butler Drive at 3:00 a.m.

During the pursuit, his patrol car collided with a sports car driven by a newlywed couple, who were unharmed. The motorcyclist, one of several being pursued, was never caught.

Officer Campbell was a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran and had served with the Phoenix Police Department for three years. He was survived by his wife, two sons, parents, and three brothers. One of his brothers also served with the Phoenix Police Department.
