Jasper Newton Lemasters

Constable Jasper Lemasters was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a wanted man near Lynn Camp in Marshall County, West Virginia.

The man had escaped from the county jail three months earlier while serving a sentence for stealing from Baltimore & Ohio Railroad freight cars. Constable Lemasters deputized two civilians after learning of the man's whereabouts. The man opened fire on the officers as they attempted to arrest him, killing Constable Lemasters and wounding one of the deputized civilians.

Constable Lemasters was survived by his wife, six children, and several siblings.
