Deputy Sheriff Bud White was shot and killed while traveling on the Greensburg and Springfield Road towards Springfield shortly before midnight.

Deputy White was riding with a youth and another man when they were ambushed. Deputy White was shot in the forehead, and the juvenile was shot in his chest and arms.

Two suspects were arrested and tried for his murder. They were suspected of killing Deputy White in retaliation for previous arrests. No information has been found about the result of the trial. However, one of the suspects was killed by ambush four years later.

Deputy White had served with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office for three years. He was survived by his wife, one son, and three daughters.
