Lawrence Christopher Prather

Corrections Officer Lawrence Prather suffered a pulmonary embolism at the North End Housing Unit at the New Hampshire State Prison for Men at 281 North State Street in Concord.

Officer Prather had been responding to repeat patterns of over-dose events at the facility. Within five days, correctional officers responded to two separate incidents where inmates were physically violent to EMTs and officers while under the influence of illegal drugs. Officer Prather usually worked alone, and his duties required frequent movement up and down stairs throughout the facility as he worked with inmates.

Despite life-saving efforts by corrections officers and nursing staff, Officer Prather passed away at Concord Hospital.

Officer Prather had served with the New Hampshire Department of Corrections for six years. He is survived by his two daughters, brother, and father.

Heavenly Father, I pray for the families of all America’s Peace Officers who have been killed in the Line-of-Duty and I thank you for their sacrifices. Bless the lives of their families so they might find healing. Help their law enforcement departments and agencies support their families. Even though their deaths might have been senseless, make something good come out of these situations so that their departments, agencies and communities, counties, states or nation, the United States of America, in which they lived and worked, might be stronger because of their lives and their deaths. In Christ Jesus’ mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]
