Thomas M. Jones

City Marshal Thomas Jones was shot and killed from ambush while eating dinner with his family.

Marshal Jones had been involved in a shootout the previous week in which his son, Deputy City Marshal Pat Jones, was shot and killed and one of the suspects seriously wounded. Six people were indicted for various charges, including murder and perjury, for Deputy City Marshal Pat Jones' murder.

Investigators believed that his murder may have been in retaliation for the previous shooting. Another theory was that he was murdered by a former informant who had just escaped from prison and also held a grudge against the marshal.

Marshal Jones was survived by his wife and daughter.
