City Marshal Charles Few was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a fugitive from Louisiana.
After being placed under arrest the man claimed that he wasn't the fugitive, but that the actual fugitive was at his home. Marshal Few accompanied the man home where they encountered another man who attacked him and gave the arrested man a gun. The prisoner shot Marshal Few before being shot and killed himself. The second subject then assaulted Marshal Few with a blunt object after he had fallen to the ground mortally wounded.
The man who assaulted Marshal Few was convicted of murder and sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Marshal Few was survived by his wife.
