William A. Campbell

Deputy Sheriff Will Campbell was shot and killed while he and another deputy conducted a welfare check at a home on the outskirts of Spadra.

A man had called deputies to report he could not find his adult daughter. The deputies went to her home to check on her when they were shot by her husband, a former inmate of the state insane asylum. The man fled the scene but turned himself in the following day and was charged with first-degree murder.

Deputy Campbell was survived by his wife.
