Deputy Sheriff Edward Bolton was killed in a vehicle crash on 31st Avenue near the Sowashee Creek Bridge.
The vehicle he was driving left the roadway and overturned as it went down a 12-foot embankment. He died after being pinned underneath the vehicle. His partner suffered minor injuries.
The deputies had just left the sheriff's office after receiving an assignment from the sheriff.
Deputy Bolton was survived by his wife and four daughters.
