Detective Rodney Mooneyham died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.

Detective Mooneyham was a United States Army veteran. He had served with the Denton Police Department for almost 11 years. He had previously served with the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office for 10 months, the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office for seven months, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Department for four years. Detective Mooneyham is survived by his wife and two children.

Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Our Lord, who sees all and knows all, will reward you abundantly for your courage, dedication and selfless service. May God immerse you and your loved ones in His Divine Mercy.
