Joseph Lloyd Greinke

Correctional Officer Joseph Greinke died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 while serving at the Pender Correctional Institution at 906 Penderlea Highway in Burgaw.

Officer Greinke was a United States Marine Corps veteran and completed tours in Iraq. He had served with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety - Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice for over five years. Officer Greinke is survived by one child.

Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.
