Deputy Marshal Walker Cobb was shot and killed by a subject he was attempting to arrest being drunk and disorderly.

The man was arrested by other officers but a mob of citizens forcefully took the man from the officers and fatally shot him.

My grandfather Rufus Cobb said that he was playing with a truck under the kitchen table when they came to tell his mother Lula about walkers death. He always spoke of the tremendous loss and pride he had of his father Walker.
