Charles Warren Harris, Jr.

Correctional Officer III Charles Harris died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.

Officer Harris had served with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety - Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice for 13-1/2 years and was assigned to the Foothills Correctional Institute. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Officer Harris,
On today, the 1st anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of North Carolina. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement than that of a Corrections Officer.
