Corrections Officer IV Alfred Jimenez died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 during an outbreak amount employees and inmates at the Formby Unit in Plainview.

Officer Jimenez had served with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for five years. He is survived by his niece whom he raised.

Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

On today, the 1st anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Texas. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement then that of a Corrections Officer.
