Charles Henry Roeder

Railroad Detective Charles Roeder was killed in a train derailment at the McCalla & Co. steel plant in the 1300 block of Beach Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The engine jumped the track and crashed through the wall of the plant, causing part of the building to collapse. Detective Roeder and a freight conductor were killed and the engineer was seriously injured.

Detective Roeder had served with the Pennsylvania Railroad for more than four years.

We cannot fully honor our heroes of the present without honoring our heroes of the past, Your heroism and service is honored today, the 97th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
