Sheriff Benny Napoleon died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 while on duty.

Sheriff Napoleon had served in law enforcement for 45 years.

Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

A true leader of law enforcement, Benny was a classic ,one of the youngest Detroit police commanders I knew him from the fifth precinct back when he was with Detroit. Very dedicated to the profession. He had a smile that would light up a room ..loved by the community he served ..god bless you and thank you for your service..RIP Benny..
