Deputy Sheriff Dewey Sizemore was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man for being drunk in public in Big Creek.
A neighbor of the subject, who was also drunk, attempted to intervene in the arrest and a .38 caliber pistol fell from his pocket. The man bent down, picked up the gun, and then shot Deputy Sizemore five times. Despite being mortally wounded, he returned fire and killed the subject.
Deputy Sizemore was survived by his wife.
