Private First Class Jack Martin was accidentally shot and killed while escorting a classified shipment aboard a train in Kearny, New Jersey.
The shipment en route to Picatinny Army Arsenal in Dover, Delaware, from the midwest. Another military police officer was clearing his service pistol during a temporary stop in the rail yards at Kearny when it accidentally discharged and struck PFC Martin in the chest.
PFC Martin had served in the Army for two years and was stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was survived by his parents.
