Guard Robert Kelley was killed when the prison transport van he was driving left the roadway and went down a 40-foot embankment on Route 422 to the bank of Perkiomen Creek in Collegeville.
He had picked up a prison trustee from a job site and was returning him back to the Montgomery County Prison Farm when the crash occurred. The prisoner suffered non-fatal injuries in the crash.
Guard Kelley was survived by his wife and three sons.
