George Jones

Town Marshal George Jones was shot and killed by the brother of a man who had just been arrested on a warrant.

The wanted brother had been shooting his gun recklessly in town the previous night. Marshal Jones formed a posse, including the man's brother and father, and arrested him the day after the incident. After the man was placed in jail the brother started quarreling with Marshal Jones about the amount of the man's bond.

The man pulled out a gun and shot Marshal Jones, killing him.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 122nd anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Your sacrifice was made so many years ago. Evil was, is, and will be a part of life just as goodness such as yours will also be present.
