Patrolman Bruden was killed in a motorcycle accident while pursuing an unknown vehicle near the intersection of Rockaway Boulevard and 112th Street in Jamaica, Queens. His police motorcycle was struck by a city bus. He was transported to Lincoln Hospital where he succumbed to head injuries one hour later.

Patrolman Bruden had been with the agency for 16 years and had been assigned to Motorcycle Squadron 2 for six years. His wife survived him.
