It was a little before 1700hrs, I was driving home from the academy on I-20 West. I was monitoring the South Precinct radio so I can train myself to listen and understand the codes/signals. Just before Candler Road, I can hear the dispatcher come over trying to raise 321E. I hear the location and I'm thinking I'm right there oh how I wish I could stop and check on him, but I'm a recruit, what can I do? How can I help this officer? Finally as I am approaching the exit, I see blue lights flying over the bridge heading in the direction of your last position and I heard it over the radio. OFFICER DOWN OFFICER DOWN! I couldn't believe it.

There have only been a few times in my life that I felt hopeless and this was one of those times. Because of this event, I try to make it an attempt to always check on any officer I see on a traffic stop or call if able, I always listen to my radio when coming to work and going home. While I didn't get a chance to meet you due to your graduation date and my start date, we are Brothers not only through DKPD, South Precinct, but also through our Instructor Shantel Williams .

I pray that you continue to watch over your family, friends, and Brothers/sisters of DKPD and South Precinct.
